With one week remaining until the FloTrack Beer Mile World Championships, former world record-holder Chris Kimbrough shared her wisdom in all things running and chugging.

With one week remaining until the FloTrack Beer Mile World Championships, former world record-holder Chris Kimbrough shared her wisdom in all things running and chugging. 

The 47-year-old mother of six shocked the world when she broke the women's beer mile world record on her home track in 2014. Her record of 6:28 was broken by Elizabeth Herndon at the 2014 world championships and later lowered to a still-standing 6:08 by Erin O'Mara at last year's championship. But Kimbrough is still going strong on the beer mile circuit and will return to compete at this year's championship LIVE on FloTrack on Saturday, Dec. 17

Favorite racing beer 

"I've used so many different ones.

"I just like to wing it. I like beer so I just haven't been picky about it. I know a lot of people are, and I should probably figure that out [laughs]. I don't have a go-to. I wing it!"

Favorite beer to drink for fun

"I'm an IPA drinker. I'm kind of a snob. I like Greenhouse from Hops & Grain."

Ideal beer temperature

"That's tricky because I don't like it to be too warm because it's too foamy and I don't like it to be too cold because then it burns more. I like it cool. I usually put it in a cooler and then take it out an hour or two before the race."

Pacing yourself 

"For me, I run pretty fast on the quarters, so I would spend more time trying to chug. The running is secondary really. Running a mile isn't that bad, but getting the beer down is the hard part. Focus on the beer drinking part and just see how you feel on the run. The first two are usually pretty fast and then it's just survival mode on three and four. Just get to the finish line. 

"I'll have a workout the morning of the beer mile. I also had a 12-mile run the morning I set the world record in 2014. I'm definitely not going to stress about it. Just got to go into it and be relaxed."

Keeping the beer down

"You got to be able to burp. If you can't you're in trouble. I've actually never thrown up amazingly [laughs]. 

"You got to really try to burp. If you don't you'll have all that air in your stomach, and you're more likely to throw up so trying to burp while you're running is the key. But it's hard to do when you're running fast."
