Paralympian Mikey Brannigan ran a 3:57.58 mile at the 2016 Sir Walter Miler in August to finish seventh in a field of professionals.

The eventual Paralympic 1500m gold medalist in Rio, Brannigan shaved six seconds off his previous best to break the four-minute mile barrier for the first time in his career.

Brannigan trailed the lead pack through the first three laps in Raleigh, North Carolina, but made a huge move with 400m remaining to kick closer to race winner Kyle Merber and high school senior Drew Hunter, who was making his pro debut. Merber 's winning time of 3:54.57 was the fastest mile ever run in the state of North Carolina, and Brannigan was the first T-20 athlete to break 4:00 in the mile.
