Peres Jepchirchir Breaks Half Marathon World Record In 65:06
23-year-old Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir broke the old half marathon world record by three seconds on Thursday night in the United Arab Emirates, closing hard to finish in 65:06. Previous No. 2 all-timer Mary Keitany ran 65:13, bumping her back to No. 3 all-time but breaking her old PR by 37 seconds.

According to the IAAF, Jepchirchir ran her four 5K splits in 15:40, 15:27, 15:23, and 15:09. The fourth ensured that she crossed the 20-kilometer mark in 61:40, also a new world record.

Olympic marathon gold and bronze medalists Jemima Sumgong and Mare Dibaba were fourth and fifth. Bedan Karoki won the men's race in 59:10.
