Ajee Wilson Breaks 800m U.S. Record, Sammy Watson Breaks Prep Record
Ajee Wilson broke the indoor American record in the 800m by winning the NYRR Millrose Games in 1:58.27. Nicole Teter's previous mark of 1:58.71 has stood since 2002.
February 11th will forever be remembered as the day the American, NCAA, and high school national records went down in the women's 800m.
Ajee Wilson broke the indoor American record in the 800m by winning the NYRR Millrose Games in 1:58.27. Nicole Teter's previous mark of 1:58.71 has stood since 2002.
Charlene Lipsey finished second in 1:58.64, also dipping under the record. Kimarra McDonald led Wilson went through 400m in 57.42 with Lipsey on her heels. The pair were well under 1:29 through 600m, and closed in 30.09 and 30.23, respectively, to break Teter's record.
High school senior Sammy Watson of Rush-Henrietta, New York finished sixth in 2:01.78, bettering Mary Decker's National high school and American Junior record of 2:01.8 set in 1974. Watson competed in a Nike kit and has not announced her college decision yet.
