The Men's 5K At BU Last Chance Will Be Incredibly Deep And Live On FloTrack
The men's 5000m will be rabbited at 13:20 pace and feature Olympic silver medialist Evan Jager, Eric Jenkins, Ryan Hill, Lopez Lomong, Chris Derrick, Mo Ahmed, Woody Kincaid, and Ben True. Only four American men have ever broken 13:20 indoors, and Lomong and Derrick are two of them. Much of the field is hot right now.
True and Hill had a fantastic two-mile throwdown at Millrose, with True edging out Hill 8:11.33 to 8:11.56. Those marks make them the Nos. 3 and 4 Americans ever in the two mile, behind only Bernard Lagat and Galen Rupp. (The Boston University track is extremely fast; Rupp ran his American records in the two mile and 5K there in 2014. Watch the 5K below.)
In the same race at Millrose, Hill's Bowerman Track Club teammate Mo Ahmed broke the Canadian two mile record in 8:13.16. Cam Levins previously had that record; he also holds the Canadian indoor 5K record at 13:19, set in the same race where Rupp ran his American record three years ago. The race is being paced to 13:20, just a second slower.
Jenkins is coming off a Wanamaker Mile win, while Jager and Lomong finished a mile together in 3:55 at the University of Washington last weekend.

Providence-based training partners Molly Huddle and Emily Sisson headline the women's 5000m. Huddle is one of two American women to have ever broken 15:00 for 5K indoors; the American record is 14:47.62 by Shalane Flanagan. Huddle has run 14:42 outdoors, and this is her first track race since setting the 10K American record at the Olympic Games. It's her first race, period, since November's New York City Marathon.
Newly minted world record holders Kyle Merber, Ford Palmer, and Donn Cabral will be joined in the men's mile by Johnny Gregorek, Dan Huling, Matt Hughes, Ethan Homan, and Alexander Seal.
The NJ*NY Track Club women will be the stars of the middle distance fields. Stephanie Schappert is racing the mile, and first-year pros Cecilia Barowski and Ce'aira Brown are in the 800m.
Additional elite entries will be announced, and more records could go down. The entire meet will be LIVE on FloTrack; you can see the full schedule here.
