Devon Allen Makes Pro Career Official, Signs With Nike
A day after returning to hurdling in workouts, former Oregon hurdler and wide receiver Devon Allen announced that he signed with Nike. With Allen's deep Oregon ties, the only surprise is that it took so long. Not every former Oregon athlete signs with Nike--Jenna Prandini, for example, is with Puma--but with Allen's status as someone actually known to mainstream sports fans, it would have been shocking if Nike let him get away.
As late as August, Allen was aiming for pro careers in football and track. But for the second time in three seasons, Allen suffered a season-ending knee injury on the football field. In November, six weeks after the ACL tear, he announced that he had a change of heart and was just going to go pro in track.
Allen actually had two years of collegiate track eligibility remaining, but nothing left to accomplish on the NCAA level. In both 2014 and 2016 (he missed the 2015 season after hurting his knee in the Rose Bowl), he won the NCAA and U.S. outdoor 110 meter hurdle championships. He was fifth in the final at the Rio Olympics.
