Alysia Montaño Pregnant With Second Child
Team USA 800m Olympian Alysia Montana is pregnant with her second child.
Alysia Montaño is pregnant with her second child. The 2012 Team USA Olympian made the announcement public by posting a video featuring her husband, Louis, and two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Linnea, on Twitter this afternoon. The couple is expecting their second child to arrive in November.
Montaño, a two-time NCAA champion for 800m, went viral in 2014 for competing at the U.S. outdoor nationals while eight months pregnant. She finished the prelims in 2:32.13, to a standing ovation from the crowd. NBC Sports reports that Louis, who serves as his wife's manager, said the 31-year-old has no races on her calendar, though she may do a few 5Ks over the summer. Her 2:00.2 semi-final performance at the U.S. Olympic Trials last July falls under the qualifying window for the U.S. Championships if she does choose to compete while pregnant again.
Montaño's last 800m was in the final at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, where she fell and did not make her second Olympic team. Her last race was in February at the Millrose Games, where she set a PB of 1:09.55 with a runner-up finish in the 500m.
Montaño is the second major U.S. 800m star to announce a pregnancy this month. Molly Ludlow, who coupled with Montaño to aid Team USA to victory at the 2015 IAAF World Relays in the 4x800m, announced her first pregnancy and subsequent retirement from the sport on April 10.
