The women's 3000m is on the track now. Hometown hero Meraf Bahta is the featured athlete in this race. She was sixth in the 1500m at the 2016 Olympic Games and recently made her debut in the 10K at the Payton Jordan Invitational. She ran 31:13 to break the Swedish national record. Since then, she's gone back down in distance and notched a personal best of 4:00 in the 1500m at the Rome Diamond League meeting.
2:52 for the first 1000m so pretty good pace going right now. As soon as they give the splits though Bahta hesitates to go with the pace-makers. She currently has four competitors trailing her.
5:50 for the 2K split so they've slowed down quite a bit. It's five athletes trailing Bahta now with less than two laps to go. Bahta picks up the pace in the last lap, she's winding it up now.
Amazing finish for Bahta and Azemra Gebru! Bahta edges her out in the final 100 meters with the win in 8:47.07, and the Ethiopian follows in 8:47.26.
