At yesterday's IAAF World Challenge meet in Madrid, Isaac Makwala of Botswana ran the fastest 200m/400m double in one day by going sub-20 and sub-44 to win both events just an hour and 15 minutes apart from each other.

Makwala's 43.92 marked his second foray under the 44-second threshold, and it also stands as the third-fastest time this season behind Wayde van Niekerk's  43.62 and Fred Kerley's 43.70. Shortly after that performance, Makwala stormed through 200m in 19.77 seconds to record a personal best and establish a new world lead in the event ahead of van Niekerk's 19.84 result from June.

With the 2017 IAAF World Championships just three weeks away, it appears he's rounding into the best shape of his life at exactly the right time. The 30-year-old is set to return to the track on Friday, July 21, at the IAAF Diamond League meet in Monaco.
