Dafne Schippers backed up her 100m bronze medal with a 200m gold at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London on Friday evening, ahead of Marie-Josee Ta Lou and Shaunae Miller-Uibo.

All three of the medalists were doubling from other events, with Schippers and Ta Lou returning from the 100m while Shaunae Miller-Uibo was coming off the 400m.

With 100m World Champion Tori Bowie withdrawn, the race seemed relatively open for an unheralded challenger to steal the gold, but ultimately the veteran in Schippers powered through to a 22.05 win. At the line, it looked like Marie Josee Ta Lou of Cote D'Ivoire could have stolen the title, but for the second time in a row, Ta Lou was edged by hundredths of a second for the silver despite her 22.08 National Record clocking.

On the home stretch, Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain was in medal position but Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas was able to use her 400m strength to prevail to the bronze, adding one more to the host country's tally of fourth-place finishes at 2017 Worlds.

The two Americans in the final, Deajah Stevens and Kimberlyn Duncan, finished fifth and sixth in 22.44 and 22.59 respectively.
