Oregon's Raevyn Rogers Signs Pro Contract With Nike
NCAA 800m champion Raevyn Rogers has turned pro with Nike.
Six-time NCAA champion Raevyn Rogers, a rising senior at the University of Oregon, will opt out of her final year of NCAA eligibility to sign a professional contract with Nike. She will be represented by Global Athletics.
Rogers posted the following video on her social media today:
The Houston, Texas, native won her first NCAA title as a mere freshman in 2015, clocking the third-fastest U.S. junior time ever of 1:59.71 for 800m to triumph on her home track at Hayward Field. She followed that accomplishment by winning the USATF junior nationals and Pan-American Junior Athletic Championships later that summer.
She would thereafter enjoy a nearly spotless NCAA record, sweeping the indoor and outdoor NCAA 800m titles in both 2016 and 2017. She was then the clutch performer on Oregon's 4x400m relay at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships, as she split 49.77 to anchor the Ducks to the NCAA title and new collegiate record of 3:23.13 ahead of USC, who had defeated Oregon at the NCAA Indoor Championships in collegiate record time. That effort was worth exactly enough points to put the Ducks ahead of the University of Georgia, 64 to 62.2 points, to claim the NCAA team title as the first women's team to complete the triple crown of NCAA cross country, indoor, and outdoor titles.
This spring at the Mt. SAC Invitational, she ran 1:59.10 to break the NCAA record in the 800m, which has stood since Suzy Favor-Hamilton ran 1:59.11 in 1990.
