Maggie Farrell via Battle Creek, MI (4:54 1600; 10:19 3200)
After an eighth-place team finish last fall, the Spartans will look for their young talent to step up in 2017. The loss of All-Americans Rachelle Schulist and Alexis Wiersma will leave a big void to be filled this year. Luckily, the Spartans have nine potential athletes to battle for varsity spots.
Sophomore Holly Bullough and junior Jenny Rogers come in as the top returners. But look to incoming freshman India Johnson to make an instant impact. Johnson finished ninth at Nike Cross Nationals and fourth at Foot Locker Nationals her senior year and sports a 10:23 3200m personal best. If Johnson can adjust well to the college system, she will be a threat to be the top freshman in the NCAA.
