Throughout his long and storied career, Meb Keflezighi has defined toughness. An Olympic silver medalist in 2004 and the 2009 New York City Marathon champion, Meb has repeatedly run his best when the stakes are at their highest. The 38-year-old added another remarkable chapter to his career on April 21, 2014 as he became the first American since Greg Meyer in 1983 to win the Boston Marathon. His winning time of 2:08:36 was a new personal best.
Meb’s victory was extra special because it came just one year after the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings that took the lives of five people and injured 280 more. “I’m blessed to be an American,” Keflezighi said after his victory. “This is a special day, Patriots Day…This is beyond words.”
