The Past Week
This weekend had some amazing races including, sr Chanelle Price (Easton, Pa) shattering Devon Williams US Record in the 500 meters by 1.14 seconds at the 13th New Balance Games. Price ran a time of 1 minute 10.30 seconds breaking Williams’s record of 1 minute 11.44 second. Price said after her race “I wanted to go out and bring them through in about 54 and then just keep on going and try to finish in about 14 or 15 seconds (for the last 100 meters) and run about 1:08 or 1:09…Starting down was a little rough for me, it was the first time, my coach said I came straight up instead of just going out….You learn and I am happy with the record…I wanted to be in the lead at the 400 and use my strength for the last 100 meters” (Quote from Dyestat) Price is scheduled to return to the Armory in 2 weeks to take a shot at a 2nd national record, when she runs the junior 1000 meters at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. At the University of Washington Indoor Preview Galen Rupp was a no show for the men’s 1 mile run. Even without Rupp not running there was still one person who was able to break the 4 minute barrier. Will Leer of the Oregon Track Club was that guy, running a time of 3 minutes 59.83 seconds. In the Women’s 3000 meters, Cack Ferrell of the Oregon Track Club ran away from the rest of the field and finished in 9:13.58. New Balance and UW were not the only meets this weekend. Michigan was able to beat Ohio State, 91 to 71.The 2008 Panther open featured a 9:30 in the Women’s 3000 by Katrina Rundhaug of Wisconsin. At the Big Ten SEC Challenge Tyler McCreary won the Men’s 1 mile in 4 minutes and 10.71 seconds. To see the complete results of these meets please visit the Flotrack track and field recent results.
