Weekend Preview

Oregon Twilight

Watch LIVE Tonight 5:30 PST

The women's 800 should be strong. Maggie Vessey, Latavia Thomas, Zoe Buckman, Anne Kesselring and Lauren Johnson could all be right around 2:00 to 2:02, making for a great race. In the women's 1500, ex North Carolina middle-distance stars Erin Donohue and Brie Felnagle will battle for top Tar Heel status.

The men's 100 will feature two football standouts in LaMichael James and current Seattle Seahawks receiver, Jordan Kent. The 800 could be fast, with former 1:46 Seton Hall runner Robert Novak and Oregon's Elijah Greer to battle.

The 1500 will feature last week's Stanford section 2 1500 winner, Anthony Berkis, as well as Trevor Dunbar of Portland.

Interestingly, the meet will have a 3k steeplechase and a 3k flat, as Stephen Pifer of the OTC will run the steeple, while teammates Ben Bruce and Jordan McNamara will battle sans barriers.

The highlight has to be the OTC versus Oregon Ducks DMR at the end of the night.  With two stacked teams, it is sure to be a fun battle.

Ivy League Heptagonal Championships

Coverage Page

This weekend, the Yale University Bulldogs will play host to the 2011 Ivy League Heptagonal Track & Field Championships. Some of the finest rivalries in the country will play out over the weekend in New Haven, Connecticut.

In the men's 400, Princeton comes in with 4 of the top 5 times, amazingly. They just ran 3:07 at Penn in the 4x400 to capture a third-place finish and new Ivy League record. See a great article in the New York Times here about their unlikely rise to elite status.

Similarly, Princeton could be dominant in the 1500. At Penn, Princeton shocked the country by winning the 4xmile relay. Is there a deeper 1500 crew in the nation? Princeton has 6 guys 3:49.36 or better, and 8 under 3:51! They will have 4 of the top 5 seeds coming in.

In the women's 5k, Leslie Kovach (16:11) will try and hold off the Princeton duo of Alex Banfich and Sarah Cummings, both at 16:14.

Florida 3A-4A State Championships

LIVE coverage tonight, via distancepreps.com

Coverage Page

Marvin Bracy, the nation's #1 ranked 100-meter runner, headlines this year's Florida 3A-4A State Championships in Winter Park.

Bracy, a junior from Orlando (Boone HS), could see plenty of competition from fellow junior Volvick Vassor of Northeast HS. Bracy is seeded at 10.41, while Vassor has run 10.48 this season.

In both 3A and 4A Boys 800's, the competition should be fierce for the victory.  In 3A, three boys come into the race with 1:54 PRs.  Isaiah Smith, Tyler Cardillo and Taylor Sumapang should all challenge. Furthermore, Charlotte provided 3 runners ranked in the top 5, as Cardillo is joined by 1:55 teammates Ryan Schnulle and Bryan Hilgar at State.

In 4A, Otniel Teixeira of Lake Brantley and Yoevanti Williams come into State with 1:53.55 and 1:53.91 times, respectively. Figure a challenge from Daniel Dey of Olympia and Cameron Davis of Flaming Island, as both have run sub-1:55 this year.

Occidental Invitational

The Oxy track has become a great place to run fast over the middle-distances the past several years. At last year's Oxy High Performance meet, 10 guys broke 3:41.

The mens 800's will be the highlights at this year's Occidental Invitational.

In heat 1, the slowest seed time is 1:47.70.  Kevin Hicks, Dustin Emrani, Prince Mumba, Tetlo Emmen, Brandon Shaw, Ryan Martin, Matthew Fox and Cory Primm comprise the fast heat.
