One week after our US National Championships, many of our big names (particularly in the throws, sprints and jumps) head to Lausanne to start their summer racing seasons. We'll also be heading to the other side of the pond, as Lausanne kicks off our 6 week coverage of all of the action across Europe. Overall, the distance races are not very American-heavy, like we are sure to see over the next several weeks, but the other events will feature some of our heavy hitters.

There are some big international names as well, headlined by world record holder in the 800 meters, David Rudisha and a stacked 5k field. Athletes like Tariku Bekele, Alistair Cragg and Imane Merga should make it interesting for stateside fans.

On the women's side, it will be interesting to see how Morgan Uceny stacks up against a tough international field in the 1500. She looked to have more in the tank in the 1500 at USA's (after multiple round, nonetheless), and she has looked repeatedly (the Prefontaine Classic as well) looked like she is on the verge of breaking off a 3:59 or 4:00 1500.

The 100 meter hurdles is almost like USA Champs Round 2...we'll see if Lolo Jones rebounds from her disappointing USA Champs campaign. Sanya Richards-Ross will have her hands full against Debbie Dunn and Natasha Hastings...can she break 50 for the first time this year?

On the men's side, Reese Hoffa, Christian Cantwell and Ryan Whiting will duke it out in the shot. While no Americans will mix it up in the 100, it will still be fun to see Jamaicans Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter and Michael Frater attack the 9.90 mark, perhaps. Kerron Clement and Bershawn Jackson should make the 400 hurdles a good one, but what I really want to see is if Imane Merga will tackle anyone in the men's 5k. What a train wreck.
