Walker's Pace: Worlds Next For Duck Seven

Monday, August 15, 2011

Seven current and former Ducks are headed to Daegu, South Korea, for the 2011 IAAF World Track & Field Championships, which take place Aug. 27-Sept. 4.

The number of Oregon's flock was increased by one on Monday with 2010 graduate Keshia Baker being added to the women's 4x400 meter relay pool.

Baker will join current Ducks Matthew Centrowitz and Mike Berry and UO alums Ashton Eaton, Galen Rupp, Andrew Wheating and Rachel Yurkovich on Team USA in Daegu.

Centrowitz in the reigning U.S. men's 1,500 meter champion, while Eaton captured the decathlon and Rupp won the 10,000 meters and grabbed third in the 5,000 at the U.S. championships in June.

Yurkovich was the runner-up in the women's javelin, Berry was fifth in the men's 400 meters and Baker was seventh in the women's 400.

The Oregon staff will also be well-represented in Daegu with Associate Athletic Director Vin Lananna serving as Team USA's head men's coach and Lance Deal serving as a men's assistant coach for the throws.
