We're in Houston for the Olympic Marathon Trials where over 300 athletes vie for 6 spots to represent the USA at the 2012 Olympic games.Whatever the result, after this weekend all eyes will be squarely focused on Eugene and what will be the most dramatic stage in all of track and field; The Olympic Trials. The track and field world will flock to Historic Hayward Field to see who will punch their ticket to London. Team USA took home a total of 25 medals from the World Championships, making this truly one of the hardest teams to make. 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Track & Field

June 22 – July 1, 2012

 

TrackTown USA – which includes the Oregon Track Club, the University of Oregon and the cities of Eugene and Springfield –will host the meet as an encore to the 2008 Olympic Trials, and an opportunity for the state of Oregon to honor its many connections to the sport of track and field.  

 

Attendance Expected: Approximately 20,000+ spectators per day including athletes, fans and officials. Additional 5,000 to 7,500 festival attendees per day are anticipated. As in 2008, additional seats in temporary bleachers will be added to Hayward Field to expand the size of the capacity crowd.  

 

Ticket Sales: Whenever Historic Hayward Field hosts an Olympic Trials, tickets are always in high demand and the 2012 extravaganza will be no exception. With less than a year before the 2012 Olympic Trials - Track & Field get underway, all session ticket packages are still available but selling fast at www.tracktown12.com.

 

Estimated Economic Impact: $31 million associated with Olympic Trials competition and TrackTown12 Festival

 

TrackTown USA Hosts the Biggest Meets

  • NCAA Outdoor Championships – 2010, secured for 2013 and 2014
  • USA Outdoor Championships - 2009 and 2011
  • Pac-10/12 Conference Championships – 2009 and secured for 2012
  • NCAA Western Regionals – 2009 and 2011
  • U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field - 2008

 

Athlete Friendly: TrackTown12 will deliver the most athlete-friendly experience for a U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track and Field. Components include a warm welcome into town, superior hospitality and logistics to prioritize athlete needs. 

TrackTown Plaza Fan Experience: The 20-acre TrackTown Plaza Fan Experience will include live track action viewing on jumbo video screens, musical entertainment and athlete interviews on stage, food and beverage options, family-friendly interactive track & field experiences, autograph opportunities, contests and commercial features and activities, as well as a coordinated transportation system, and volunteers to assist with questions throughout a community-wide hospitality system.

Sustainability and accessibility:  In 2008, Eugene’s Olympic Trials won the first ever International Olympic Committee’s Sport and the Environment Award for environmental stewardship of a sporting event. TrackTown12 will improve upon that success by reducing waste, maximizing recycling and composting, using solar and other green power, enlisting local vendors, foods and community groups, and raising awareness about access and social equity as part of sustainable practices.
