 Fresh off the final Diamond League Meet of the 2013 season, we into the Olympic Stadium for another action packed set of events.  No, not London, not Moscow, but back into Berlin for the 2013 IAAF World Challenge.  Falling in the schedule just a few weeks after The World Championships in Moscow, we’re sure to see boat-loads of fast times from many of the stars in our sport.

I don’t just say we’ll see great performances due to being a positive person, but from the history of the event, the meet records and the entrants that are in the events.  Looking through the start lists, we see MR’s in forms of the Men’s 800 (1:41.09), Men’s 1500 (3:29.46), Women’s 1500 (3:58.43). 

Moving from past to present, there are solid fields in the Men’s Steeplechase, led by multi-time World Champ, Ezekiel Kemboi, former WR Holder Dayron Robles in the 100mh, Duane Soloman & Mo Aman duke it out in the 800m, Bernard Lagat is fresh off of his 3K win in Linz to tackle a 1500m field that includes a slew of Kenyans as well as fellow countryman, Leo Manzano. 

 

               The 2-Lapper

Main Story: Duane Solomon gets a another shot to take down the young Mo Aman, after close calls all year.  Brandon Johnson looks to bounce back from a rough Zurich performance and hopes to finish his dream season on a high note.

                Mens 1500m

Could this be Bernard Lagats’ last 1500m ever? No one really knows, not even us. He’s coming to Berlin after a strong 3K win over Will Leer in Linz last week, showing he’s not phased by his race in Moscow. Leo Manzano looks to salvage a somewhat disappointing summer season.  Watch out for this big field to be strung out early as the MR is in jeapordy with guys like Lagat, Manzano, Ndiku, Komen and Cheboi.

 

Mens Steeplechase

 

In the Mens Steeplechase, we’ll see a few big names coming from the Kenyan side with Olympic & World Champ Ezekiel Kemboi leading the charge.  Running off of Haron Lagats pacing, we’ll see if Daniel Huling can mix it up with the Africans and get himself a late-season PR (who said in Moscow, he is as fit as he’s ever been, note: PR is 8s faster than SB).

 

Womens 1500m

 

The premiere event of the meet on the women’s side is sure to be the 1500m.  We’ll see 2013 World Champ Eunice Sum extend her range as she’s looked unbeatable since Moscow.  Americans Morgan Uceny & Gabe Anderson will hop on for a ride, don’t be surprised if we see Anderson bust out a PR.  Also a name that could really get into the party could be Hannah England, Nancy Langat, Mary Kuria & Viola Kibiwot.
