Kara Goucher Back To Boulder And Wetmore
Editor's note: Last night Shanna Burnette, founder of ModCraft and publicist for Kara Goucher, contacted us to give us the heads up about today's news on Goucher's new website and move back to Boulder to work with former collegiate coach Mark Wetmore (her release is below). Truth be told, we saw Adam Goucher a week ago at the Running Event here in Austin and we could tell there was some excitement with things happening in their lives. One of my co-workers (Alex Lohr if I'm not mistaken) actually said to me, "What if Kara moved back to Boulder to get coached by Wetmore?" My response, in fewer words, was "No way." I'm ok with being proven wrong here because it's hard to argue the success Wetmore's women have had over the last few years between Jenny Simpson, Emma Coburn and Shalaya Kipp. Speaking of Simpson...remember this breaking news one year ago to the day??

Additional Note: This press release is pretty general but there is a link to Kara's blog on her new website that goes into the decision a little more. There is no mention of whether or not she will stay a Nike athlete or if other changes will be made. Now a days it is rare to see an athlete leave either Alberto's group or Schumacher's group and stay with Nike, but Kara has a greater following than most female track and field/marathon runners so you never know.

December 12, 2013 – Portland, Oregon – Kara Goucher, one of the most accomplished female distance runners of all time, is thrilled to announce the launch of her new website, www.karagoucher.com. The website will be an interactive platform for Kara to personally connect with a community of fans and share experiences and inspirations amongst all her readers. In conjunction with her new website, Kara will share training tips and advice from her new training team. On January 1st, 2014, Kara will be moving back to her college hometown of Boulder, Colorado to begin her training with her former collegiate coach, Mark Wetmore.

Goucher has a successful and ongoing running career alongside being a dedicated wife and mother. Goucher made her marathon debut in New York City in 2008 and placed third. In 2011, she was fifth at Boston with a PR in 2:24:52. She competed in both the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and the 2012 London Olympics last August where she placed 11th in the Olympic Marathon. Coming off a long hiatus and a withdrawal from the 2013 New York City Marathon due to a stress fracture in her foot, she is excited to start the new training regime with her former college coach, Mark Wetmore and C.U. assistant coach Heather Burroughs. She is thrilled to get back to the sunshine and altitude of Boulder, Colorado where she feels confident that her big goals will be achieved.
