Kara Goucher out for the track season

On Tuesday morning, American marathoner Kara Goucher announced she will not be competing during the 2014 outdoor track season due to a sacral stress fracture.

“For the first time in my career this news was not met with tears,” Goucher blogged. “Instead, I asked the bearer of bad news, ‘What the F*&%?!’”

Goucher was training at Palm Springs when she began feeling pain in her buttocks. Doctors tend to recommend four to six weeks of rest and a gradual return to activity. A full recovery could take five months to a year.

After returning to Boulder, Colo. and rejoining coach Mark Wetmore and Heather Burroughs, Goucher expressed a desire to return to track and find her speed again. In her latest blog, she noted the goals of running under 31 minutes for 10,000-meters and traveling to Europe to break 15 minutes for the 5,000-meter run.

“Yes, I am disappointed and want to punch something. I am annoyed and frustrated and sad to let go of the goals I had for the summer,” Goucher blogged. “But, I will heal, I will come back stronger than ever, and I will still have an amazing fall marathon.”

Oiselle recently signed Goucher to a new contract after the Olympian spent 12.5 years with Nike. Her competitive debut will have to wait, but Goucher says she will represent the company by making a spectator appearance at the Boston Marathon and its expo. She will also travel to Palo Alto to cheer on teammate Kate Grace at the Payton Jordan Invitational. There is also a small celebration planned for her addition to the team.
