2013 NCAA 100m champ Charles Silmon placed 2nd in 10.43.

FULL RESULTS

Steady rains and overall poor racing conditions was the storyline today at the TCU Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas. For those athletes making the quick transition from the comforts of indoor to the unpredictability of outdoor, the inclement weather served as an unpleasant greeting for the long season that lay ahead.

The first event of the day saw 2015 NCAA 60m champ Ronnie Baker of TCU make his outdoor debut just six days after his surprising victory in Fayetteville. The junior ran in the the third leg of the Horned Frogs 4x100m team that placed second in 40.73 behind UT-Arlington (40.60).

The men’s 100m dash was hyped as the premiere event of the afternoon, and it stayed true to its promise thanks to the efforts of UT-Arlington’s Quentin Butler and adidas’ Charles Silmon. Running in separate heats, Butler and Silmon ran 10.36 and 10.43, respectively, the two fastest times of the day. Here was Silmon's reaction to his performance:

Butler’s time is currently the NCAA’s fastest in 2015, and was very close to his PB (10.32) on a day where good sprinting conditions were nowhere to be found. Silmon, the 2013 NCAA 100m champ, used this meet as a rust buster for much bigger races this summer. Silmon has a PB of 9.98, and was a part of Team USA’s silver medal 4x100m team at the 2013 World Championships.

SMU’s Stephanie Kalu won the women’s 100m dash for the second consecutive year in 11.67, currently the second fastest in the NCAA. Kalu represented Nigeria in the 100m in the 2013 World Championships.

Baylor’s George Caddick dominated the men’s 400m in 46.26, currently NCAA #1 and a new PB for the sophomore. Caddick’s time is remarkable considering that he ran it in driving wind and rain. Watch out for this young Bear as the season progresses.

Baylor senior Tiffani McReynolds dominated the women’s 100m hurdles in 13.12, NCAA #1 in 2015. McReynolds did not run indoors for the Bears in 2015, but she was a four-time All-American in the 60m hurdles from 2011-2014, and finished fourth in the 100m hurdles outdoors last spring. McReynolds has a 100m hurdles PB of 12.77 from USAs in 2014.

Make sure to tune-in tomorrow as we'll be LIVE at the UTSA Team Challenge in San Antonio. 2014 Bowerman Award winner Laura Roesler will compete in the 800m!
