Top 10 NCAA Preliminary Moments: Day 3

1. Rhianwedd Price of Mississippi State ran an NCAA leading 4:10.95 to win her quarterfinal. Biggest shocker? Her teammate Marta Freitas won her quarterfinal to have the second-fastest East Prelim qualifying time in 4:13.17, a 6-second PB.
2. Virginia Sophomore Jordan Young qualified for his third throwing event at the NCAA Championships. He threw 19.40m to finish fifth in the shot put today, after winning the hammer throw on Thursday (70.73m), and discus on Friday (62.27m).

3. Providence's Emily Sisson won the 5K battle in the East over Iona's Kate Avery. With these two already having IAAF "A" standards in the 10K, they are solely focused on the 5K at NCAAs and will duke it out as the top two seeds in Eugene.

4. Virginia Tech's Thomas Curtin won the East men's 5K in 13:52 over Syracuse freshman Justyn Knight, which marked the senior's first time qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
5. The Oregon Ducks are sending four NCAA Outdoor qualifiers back home to Eugene, led by Edward Cheserek's monster kick in the first heat of the men's 5K. Will Geoghegan, Eric Jenkins and Jake Leingang will be following the NCAA Champion to Hayward Field.
6. California's standout freshman Bethan Knights made an aggressive race out of the women's 5K, taking the lead with five laps to go and closing hard for a winning time of 16:02 over NCAA leader Jessica Tonn.

7. With breakout performances all around, the NCAA women's 4x400 was a speed-fest led by Ohio State's facility record-run of 3:28.37. Clemson followed close behind the Buckeyes in 3:28.59, and Florida and Florida State each ran 3:29 in their respective heats to close out Saturday night in Jacksonville.

8. Arkansas ace hurdler Omar McLeod blazed through his heat of the men's 110m hurdles with a 13.22 winning time that was just .01 off the school record!
9. In one of the greatest breakthrough performances of the day, Sam Houston State's Matthew Viverette finished runner-up in the men's 110m hurdles for his first NCAA Outdoor Championships berth. The senior posted a huge personal best mark of 13.69, which was a vast improvement from his previous mark that had him ranked No. 39 in the NCAA.
10. Portland's William Kincaid blasted a six second personal best mark of 13:48 to take the win in heat two of the men's 5K. Kincaid's finishing kick left All Americans Will Geoghegan, Kemoy Campbell and Eric Jenkins in the dust.
