Peachtree and Honeymoon!

Well I would like to focus on the positives of the past couple weeks for the majority of this blog and thus get the negatives out of the way early. The last race of my season was the Peachtree 10k, this years event had an astounding 60,000 participants! I had run the race last year, and gotten a good kick in the butt which worked as a great "this isn't college anymore" experience. I was excited to see where I had come since last year's experience. Unfortunately, heading into the race, I couldn't help but to be more excited about taking time off after the race rather than the race itself. Obviously that isn't a successful attitude to have going into a race. I feel like my last few races have been that way, and it's very frustrating cause that's just not me. I love racing, and competing against the best; but my last few races seemed more like a burden than an exciting opportunity. Therefore it was a great decision to shut it down after this race, instead of beating a dead horse and trying to make something good happen in Europe. Although the race itself was a disappointment, it was fun to be around many of my peers and catch up with some I've gotten to know well over the years; and we were all treated very well by the Atlanta Track Club.

I flew back the night of the 4th to have Annika pick me up at the airport. We spent the night in Phoenix, catching some fireworks before I couldn't stay up any longer. (I had woken up at 4:30am eastern time and hadn't been able to sleep on the flight) We then made our way to beautiful San Diego, it truly is America's finest city. Too bad its the home of the rotten Chargers, Go Broncos!!! Annika and I spent 5 nights there, enjoying being able to sleep great in air conditioned rooms, hitting lots of beaches and lots of restaurants; which is helping me pack on the pounds in my time off haha.

Our last night being beach bums

There were a ton of great moments we had on the trip, which will be one of our last big ones before our newest family member arrives. One of the fun days was going to the famous San Diego Zoo. It was a fun day that brought out the little kid in each of us; and got us to thinking how exciting it will be to bring little Makenzie to the zoo. We think that she liked the elephants and hippos the most because she was kicking the most when we saw them. Also probably because they happen to be the opposite of her mommy and daddy, very large and very little hair, compared to skinny and hairy (that's daddy that's hairy not mommy).

We got Makenzie a little stuffed elephant and a book

Anyway we got back to Flagstaff Sunday night and are starting to settle back in. Annika has been heading back to work, and I have a few more days off before I start getting back to training. It will be great to run with all the guys again, and I'm most excited about getting my mental energy back to get back to the real Aaron Braun again, not this impostor who has been racing my last few races!
