Our first workout of Workout Wednesday: Season 5, brings you some insight on one of the most important training runs of any distance runner, especially in cross country. The long run may not have the glitz and glamour of 10x400 under 60, but its something that all runners relate to and use to build a base for a long year of track & field.
The Stanford cross country program has won a combined nine national championships and 24 Pac 10 titles. This year Stanford's squads start the season with respective rankings of 1st and 12th for men and women. This video offers insight into head coach Jason Dunn's program as he enters his 3rd season in Palo Alto. We follow the team on a long run at Sugar Pine Point State Park on the California side of Lake Tahoe. Stanford will race this weekend at home at the 2010 Stanford Invite.

Another nice video by Kevin Selby. I'm curious about how he was able to have such a stable camera while talking with the athletes during the run. Excellent questions and interesting responses. I've followed college cross country for 25 years and I can't recall a more loaded men's team comprised solely of American kids than the current Stanford squad.I would actually say the Stanford squad of 2003 was much better...Ryan Hall, Ian Dobson, Loius Luchini, Grant Robison, Donald Sage, Adam Tenforde, Seth Hjeny...That was one of the best teams ever assembled...But agreed Selby does a great job!!!!! |

what happened to lauren chetelat? she just fell off the face of the earth...she transferred schools and because it was midway through the year and within the same conference she has to sit out a full year. if my math is correct she should be eligible again in indoor http://www.calbears.com/sports/c-xc/mtt/chetelat_laurynne00.html |

If you are watching WOWs to watch people run to music, you are greatly missing the point. The insight from the coaches and athletes are what make this great. Seeing them run makes it that much cooler, but you cant gain that much insight from seeing someone run with no reference points.yeah the main cool thing about WOW is seeing what some very good runners are doing and WHY. |

I'd give anything to live life over and be one of these guys...I ran 80,000 miles for no team...it would have been great to be a member of a collegiate team with workouts like this...take it all in folks! Enjoy every minute.. |

Coach Dunn has been inspiring to the Stanford squad. They've been in limbo since Coach Lanana left and this guy came in from Virginia with more promise than they've seen in a long time. It's good to see the whole team focused again! |
