Ray Treacy, coach of America's fastest 5k runner Molly Huddle, talks to Flotrack after a workout filmed before the 2011 Stanford Payton Jordan Invitational. Ray Treacy talks about how Molly's confidence has improved over the last few years and what the focus will be in racing during the 2011 outdoor season. Treacy also coaches New Zealand's best distance runner of all-time, Kim Smith. Kim and Molly both train together in Providence, RI.
Look out for Molly's workout tomorrow on Flotrack.

Recruiting any high school athlete is a gamble. Just because the latest bunch of Irish girls didn't pan out doesn't make Ray a bad coach. If this is true then every coach out there is bad. Most of the time it is the athlete not the coach. Look at Rays track record. As for Whoever this nail is, obviously he had problems and there was a reason for his departure. Why waste a scholarship on someone who is never going to run? That isn't fair to the other guys on the team. |

to be more clear kim smith has 3 outdoor track national records (3k, 5k, 10), 5 road records (10k, 20k, 30k, Half Marathon- 67, Marathon- 2:25) and at least 3 indoor track national records (mile, 3k, 5k- 14:39 indoors solo)Yes but none of this makes her the "New Zealand's best distance runner of all-time". Sorry, not even close. To be the Kiwi GOAT she needs to win at least 3 OG golds! That is the standard, not a collection of indoor and road records that no one cares about. |

To be clear, the phase used was "New Zealand's best distance runner of all-time"to be more clear kim smith has 3 outdoor track national records (3k, 5k, 10), 5 road records (10k, 20k, 30k, Half Marathon- 67, Marathon- 2:25) and at least 3 indoor track national records (mile, 3k, 5k- 14:39 indoors solo) she has been in ever world/olympic final since 2005. she was also 12th in world cross back in 2005. pretty good stats i'd say, not to mention her 5k is better than any american ever |

Explain to me how Kim Smith is not the best New Zealand distance runner...To be clear, the phase used was "New Zealand's best distance runner of all-time" KS has no global titles/medals, or WRs for that matter, while other Kiwis do. This kind of hyperbole is an insult to them. |

Ray is such a piece of . Honestly, I don't know how the guys on the team put up with Ray. Ray makes them seriously deficient in every significant nutrient category and causes them prolonged gastrointestinal distress which leads to very unpleasant team van rides. The team revolves around Ray and they are fed Ray's up to 3 times a day. Unfortunately for Ray Treacy, he shares a first name with the unpopular dining hall on campus, but at least he doesn't share the same last name like popular Friar basketball mainstay, Ray Hall. |

ray is one of the best distance coaches in the country. he has coached national champions and had incredible distance squads over the years. the fact that some athletes happen to be weak and cant handle hard training is unfortunate but a fact of life. Dont disrespect ray because he has more than earned respect for himself |

In regards to being sent home...I'm sure there is more to the story then simply he wasnt performing... maybe attitude? maybe work ethic? Only person who knows is Ray and to be honest, the results speak for themselves. Ray holds onto athletes that are injured as long as they show an effort to overcome said injury. Obviously this kid didn't show the effort. |

if ray was such a great coach wouldn't be able to ressurrect these athletes careers?? and if he was such a great coach why would he sign athletes who had overtrained and had no future? maybe he should've gone and gotten some facts for himself...and niall tuohy??? defend that one and I'll be impressed |

anyone who lies on this website should be censored.....obviously this is a typical "know it all" irish person. no one in america would speak about the ffrench ocarroll's or suzanne huet. If you had any of your facts right you would see suzanne huet and rebecca ffrench ocarrol have been injured since day one coming out of high shcool and coming into providence college..I would put that down to who ever training them in Ireland...I do believe they were known up in dsd for over training at a young age. it just so happened there bodies gave in going over to america. Running 15 mile long runs up the dublin mountains does not make sense to me at such a young age. that "may" be a factor of why there injured. charlotte is no injured and has been competing all year around....so where ever you are getting your facts from you would want to brush up on your knowledge, cause obvioulsy you lack it. someone who just has a grudge against a great coach who has produced great athletes and is producing great athletes. you should be censored. |

If Ray kicked a kid out for not performing, that's a problem, but as far as "ruining" athletes, I think that's criticizing him too much. Some kids just don't perform at the college level, did Vin Lananna "ruin" the Mercado twins, no, some kids just can't handle college running. |

why are flotrack censoring me??? i merely pointed out that athletes such as charlotte and rebeca french o carroll and suzanna huet have been ruined by providence as well as niall tuohy being kicked out of the college by treacy despite treacy promising him a 4 year ride irrespective of injury...to pretend that treacy is some sort of guru is a mistake..hes an average coach..why the need to restrict opinion on this website? are we not allowed to debate the merits of the coaches that your site hold up as being worthy of attention? |
