Lauren Fleshman talks after running her debut marathon in 2:37:23 at the 2011 ING New York City Marathon. Leading into the race Fleshman has an abbreviated training cycle, a "hard" taper and some minor injuries to deal with. It wasn't the smoothest road but she had a solid run and came away excited about the experience with lessons learned. Fleshman was also asked to remove a temporary tattoo that had her energy bar's company name, "Picky Bars," just minutes before the start of the race.

I think you are selling yourself short. Run longer. 3 x 40 mile weeks leading in are not going to get you to 26.2 as fast as everything but your legs are ready to. Huge ability. Not saying it's worth training that much if you're that good at the 5km, but 2:37 is the tip of the iceberg |

Sponsors of the World Marathon Majors pay to be exclusive sponsors. So the rule is anything but stupid: the sponsors pay the freight without which there would not be the races to run. |

She's my new favorite to see interviews and insight! Lauren's journal is fantastic and I can't wait to see what she does on the track at the trials! Good Luck Lauren! |

Lauren was never in contention for marathon majors money, usually only 2-3 people are. Why all elites bow down to these rules when they have absolutely no benefit to the athlete boggles my mind. BTW it also makes no sense at all to sanction elite runners and then not sanction the rest of the 45,000 other runners who can even wear Gumby costumes... |

What a great personality; always gives a great interview. Love her forthrightness. That PickeyBar story is pretty funny, but I'm sure not at that moment. Good Luck to her. |

"A tramatic pre-race experience" lol. Come on if cleaning off a couple of tattoos is consider a "trama to her then this is concerning.. And then calling the rules out as "stupid" is lame. |
