Kara Goucher before the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials talks about looking at herself in the mirror and being honest that things had to change after making excuses why it was ok to not properly take advantage great of opportunities she had.

What a revealing interview, it says SO much about Kara and about Alberto Salazar. I think Salazar is a better coach than athlete and he has tremendous success with two of his runners, Mo and Rupp. Kara was under Salazar in 2007 when she did well in Osaka, but maybe the relationship just got old and she had to move on.

Moving on, Shalane Flanagan ran spot on in my opinion, always running intelligently and with the lead pack. She is like Apple stock, always moving upward.
This was by far the best showcase presentation of the marathon trials run simultaneously (minus 15 minutes) and it was nice to see the official starters, Shorter and Joan Samuelson.
As you watch this race, in fact every major race, there is always that changing of the guard going on. Now Kastor, once the queen of American distance running,
becomes part of the past, Flanagan is part of the present, the new queen.
I was also very impressed by Linda Somer Smith, now 50, running for 28th place. That is something to take note of.
Meb is proving he is not part of the past, even at age 36. Lopes was 37 when he struck gold in Los Angeles in very hot conditions.
London awaits and I suspect in the women's marathon the Russian will get across the finish line first, but we will have to wait and see.

Great Interview. Rings so true and tough to say. Even if tomorrow doesn't work out, I hope she's fired up for the 10k later this year. Best of luck
