Luke Puskedra breaks from the normal collegiate to debut in the 13.1 mile distance at the 2012 Houston Half Marathon. Puskedra ran a killer time of 1:01:36, which looks to be just off the top 10 all-time in the US (somewhere between #12-15 we are estimating). Luke talks about why they chose to run the half and plans for the rest of his collegiate career.

So focused this year. I watched him up close at the West Regionals at Stanford. Becoming only the fourth runner from Oregon to place top-10 at the NCAA Nats 3 times (Prefontaine, Salazar, Rupp, and now Puskera) was a huge accomplishment for Luke. 1:01 is a surprise but very believable this soon after XC season. I hope he hooks up with Coach Salazar.

Definitely the correct move for Luke to move up in distance. He's a great XC performer and we all knew he had it in him to do great with the longer races. I was surprised he did this race in between cross and indoors but definitely not surprised with his time. The best move for him after college is tearing up the roads. He has a bright post collegiate career in store for him, this is just a small insight. Its not that Luke cant perform well on the track like in the 10k, but i just don't think he has the speed it takes to cover those big moves that it takes to win in championship style racing.

What a surprise to see him take on the distance! I love the fact that he jumped out of his comfort zone and wasn't afraid to try the half. What a stud, and his time was unbelievable . Totally respect Luke. Nice job bro and keep up the good work!

I was very pleased with your time and more especially having made your interview so real and so of the thoughtful of the team. I have always thought marathon would be a better area for you, not that I don't believe in you in shorter races but you know where money falls. just a thought. I wish you success and hope to train with you sometime when you come to Arizona. you are welcome to flagstaff man. you are real

Fantastic Race! 4 months ago

Way to put it out there dude! Great time as well! You're right on the money with this career move. Steady as she goes with lots of recovery time and you'll start taking mega-chunks out of the competition big time!
