Chris Derrick joins his alma mater at training camp in Tahoe as they prepare for cross country. While Stanford builds up for the XC season, Derrick looks to nail down a pro contract. After battling injury through the Olympic Trials, where he was fourth in the 10k, Derrick is healthy, rested, and is ready for a solid fall of training.

People don't seem to understand: He has been offered a contract. He hasn't accepted it because either it's not enough money, not where he wants, hasn't found the right training group, or plenty of other reasons. Shoe companies aren't dumb enough to just not offer him a contract.

Chris has integrity and enjoys telling the truth. Shoe companies see this as a potential threat to their brand.

German has a contract because he is worth more to shoe companies. German is still the more "exciting" name of the two. That can take you a long way.

Stop being a "Prima-Donna Grad ", shave the stupid beard and get your butt into a high profile race ASAP!
Do IT! .... And then sign!

theres no such thing as a bad contract with Nike and the OTC. Germans obviously making enough to be over in Europe and not worrying about getting a job. Luke Puskedra definitely doesn't have any eligibility left Chase Wade.

the sound on this sucks schween you can't hear anything

Chase Wade 8 months ago

I am assuming Luke Puskedra went with the OTC since that is the 13th grade of anyone from Oregon. But where did he end up? or does he have one more secret year of Eligibility I just never heard about?

Mama Dorni 8 months ago

It's tough times. He may have to work 5 jobs and running like a lot of the runners do.

My apologies for the wind! It did not seem bad at the time. Yes, I did meet up with the team at Lake Tahoe Community College. I strongly suggest checking it out. Trails run throughout the area near this field and easily connect to endless trails. Maybe this could be a Running Hot Spot down the road sometime!

I'm sure he could get a contract tomorrow if he wanted but like he said he is working on getting the best deal possible. Just because GF has a contract doesn't mean it's a good one or one that Chris feels like he deserves.

idk how german is signed already and he isn't haha I mean yeah Dave Smith is tight with Jerry but come on Chris is the best cross athlete never to win a championship and he broke 13:20 indoors. That's world and olympic A standard and he's 5 years from his prime. Almost certain to break 13 and definitely break 27. I'd sign him lol

Chris, how will you utilize your economics degree as well as your interest in law?

Kevin, are you guys on the field next to Lake Tahoe Community College? It looks just like where I work! Just curious. -Fran

maybe he should win a race first?

Chris had run some absolutely incredible times but he hasn't really dropped a big bomb yet! Which is what he really needs to do first, to get contract things on "his" terms! Luke's definitely not waiting, neither should Chris!

Pumped to see him race as a pro.

Obviously he's been offered a contract, but is looking for a better deal. He'll get paid, it's just a question of how much

In this day of social media i hope Chris maximizes his visability. Shoe contracts are much more than just about running fast 2-3 races a year, they are about what an athlete brings to the sponsor in terms of visability (i.e. witness the whole Lolo saga this summer).

Chris is such an interesting, entertaining and inspiring athlete. Here's hoping he starts promoting himself if his agent isn't up to the task.

Dan Liliot isn't a very good agent. Look at Scott Baughs, no contract.

anyone else think he could be the next Pat Porter??

Is it sad that last night as I finished up my run and started to stretch I thought "who is Chris with now?" How has the OTC or Hansons not picked this kid up?

Anonymous Coward 8 months ago

How much is an average contract?

I think if the shoe companies understood how popular of a character Chris is, in addition to being an awesome runner, they would jump at the chance to get him on their team.

I like how that whole answer was drowned out by the wind lol he could have said whatever he wanted.
