Alberto is creating a more complete runner; one that embodies lean muscle, nimble athleticism, and almost unbeatable finishing speed. The weight room is no longer a place an endurance athlete can avoid. It's either get strong, or get slow.

I tried some of those lunges on the half ball and i must say that galen rupp has an incredible amount of control to stay completely balanced. I guess thats why olympians almost look robotic in every stride they take.

Anyone knows the song title from the video? I can't find any info... Cheers

just realized that this is a re-upload, albeit with more of the exercises

I wish I woke up in the morning and had to worry about that....instead of an office chair or vehicle seat. BTW Why are they training at what appears to be a fairly busy public fitness center? Don't they have other facilities through Nike that they should be using?

Quote from Oregon - " Terrible form, those knees shouldn't move forward to the point they pass the knees.

Enough said.

So Flotrack is re-running this clip as a WOW?

What kind of free's are those?

Galen, do you even lift bro?

Anonymous Coward 4 months ago

Oregon, people clearly didn't see the sarcasm in your comment or the humor in it.

This is the difference between being good and being great! Thank you Flotrack, Rupp and Salazar for making this video! If you think you distance runners don't need strength training, you're so stupid!

Thad Moren 4 months ago

Why not completely dorsi-flexed on the single leg driving exercises? Purposeful or fatigue?

randomrunner 4 months ago

Oregon, you can start talking once you win a silver medal....now, stop criticizing and give the guy a break.

Hey Oregon
Are you mental? Galen Rupp is the most talented and proficient runner the US has ever had. Are you really so ambitious as to comment on his squatting form? The guy just broke the American record for 10k and brought home the Silver meddle in the same 12 months. He knows what he's doing and so does Salazar. You sir are an idiot. If someone out there was better than rupp, then they would beat him. Do you think the kenyans and ethiopians have access to all of that technology? Or how about guys like El G who put records out of reach back when that stuff didn't even exist? That stuff doesn't make the runner. It is a combination of talent, hard work, and good coaching that makes the runner. . Rudisha did it on a dirt track. Get out of here with the nonsense dude.

Look at his knees when he squats. Terrible form, those knees shouldn't move forward to the point they pass the knees. thank goodness it's light weight. I personally think Salazar and Nike could have picked an athlete with better base speed and more natural fast twitch muscle to invest into for the USA. There are athletes (even ones not allergic to grass) out there that would easily out perform Rupp if they had access to the altitude tents, underwater and anti-gravity treadmills, high altitude running camps, facilities and medical staff provided to him.

That was all light weight

Great segment.. keep it coming.
About 90% of that routine was general strength training, not weight training. All track and field athletes no matter what event/area of competition need general strength training.

Excited and looking forward to seeing Rupp at Terrier this year, and I can't wait to compete in the prestigious meet as well.

Anonymous Coward 4 months ago

He says he doesn't believe in small weights and lots of reps but that seems to be largely what is occurring here? Right?

Victor 4 months ago

Of course they haven't gained any weight look how much weight they're lifting. That's light even for someone who weighs 140

Thanks 4 months ago

This content is too good flotrack. Thank you so much and keep it coming

Kevin 4 months ago

Is there a site we can get these workouts at to incorporate them into our workouts?

Greg Timblin 4 months ago

@agip - i noticed the tape, too. i doubt rupp is throwing around enough weight without warming up to pull something a fews weeks out from OGs. my thought was that the taping was done in a way to keep rupp's shoulders back + relaxed and open up his chest when running fast...just alberto trying to correct his upper body posture.

Anonymous Coward 4 months ago

Injuries rarely occur in the weight room, if you are following a periodized program and under a certified strength coach.

Duhgreat 4 months ago

Galen Rupp is HUUUGGEEE!!!

Anonymous Coward 4 months ago

think his shorts are long enough?

agip 4 months ago

Anyone else notice the tape on Rupp's back on that video on letsun of Rupp, Ritz and Mo doing a workout on the track pre London? I wonder if Rupp hurt himself in the weightroom. Which is one of the risks of all this lifting. But it turned out ok - that's for sure.

Jesmond Bonnici 4 months ago

Keep them coming.
