16:00!? For a girl?! At Mt. Sac!? Sara Baxter runs without fear of competitor or exhaustion. Some of the NCAA's greatest athletes have come through Mt. Sac but no one has ever seen the sheer dominance that the soft spoken Baxter had in this years Mt. Sac Invitational.

I just need to give a shout out to by far the best announcing I've heard for a high school race. He really got me, and it looked like everyone, excited and aware about how big of a deal Sarah's performance was. So often these incredible performances lack the announcing that really excites people about our sport; that's definitely not the case here.

Hey Michael,
Your right, very smooth stride. I just hope that her team is working with her on her heel strike. It is not slight. I was pulling like that for years and now I am paying the price. This girl's potential to be even faster depends on that factor. Watch her on the 2012 CIF-SS Finals, especially from 1:24-1:35. Flat parking lot, good angle to check our her landings.

Chad, Her bio mechanics are flawless in my mind. Maybe a slight hell strike (needs to shorten her stride?) and the arms a little too far away from her body, but her stride is smooth and effortless. There is no way you run that fast without having extremely efficient bio mechanics. You can't waste any energy and still run that fast.

I am from the class of the Big 3 of 2011: Ryan Hall, Alan Webb and Dathan Ritz. The biggest Mt. Sac race would have been if Hall, Webb and Ritz would have raced at Mt. Sac. Ritz for sure would have run under 14:00. Ritz is the best High School Cross Country runner of all time - NO QUESTION!

Chad 5 months ago

She has it all, guts, grit, determination, power, and focus...but if she doesn't change a lot of her bio mechanics soon, in a few years she will be just another injured athlete dreaming about the past.

IMPRESSED! 5 months ago

That girl had some serious rockets srapped to her cheeks! 16:00 flat! Mega impressive! She needs to take down that 2 mile 9:48 record fair and square - blow it clear outta da water!

Sarah Baxter's performance takes me back to 1975, featuring a much anticipated duel between Thom Hunt of Patrick Henry HS and Eric Hulst of Laguna Beach HS. Both were seniors and Hulst had been running sub-9 minutes consistently in the 2-mile ever since he was a sopre. Hulst and Hunt ran neck and neck the whole way over the old 2-mile course and it came down to a kickdown in the final chute. Hunt won it, but it was one of the most amazing races I'd ever seen. Sarah Baxter's record-setting performance here ranks up there with Hulst vs. Hunt as one of the greatest cross country races at Mt. Sac.

That am awesome time and great runner, Mac Sac Cross Country Invitational is one of the hard courses in the U.S, I was lucky to run in it 3 times in high school.

Incredible. Absolutely incredible. In my opinion, that was one of the best female cross country performances ever. Congratulations Sarah! You are dominate races for many, many years to come. Keep smashing records!!!!

Absolutely amazed at Sarah of how far he has gotten so quickly! As a Simi native and alum at SVHS (not Royal) I am incredibltey proud of her along with the entire program for engineering and training an elite and exceptional group of runners!

Thinking back to even before she was a freshman, there were rumors that she would be a phenom and perhaps even challenge the records of the great Jordan Hasay, Mission Prep SLO. But we never anticipated an eruption such as the one captured on vid. She's got a long, long, journey in front of her, but Great job Simi Valley, Great job Sarah, and Great job to the program who continue to set an exception level of class, leadership, and excellence!

I may be getting ahead of myself here, but I think Sarah Baxter could dominate female long distance running in the years ahead as a certain Steve Prefontaine did back in the '70's before his untimely death. I think she is that good.

The race length plays a huge factor when it comes to fatigue. The difference between a 3 mile and a 5k is about 160 meters. Some runners push themselves too hard and run out of gas during that last 160 meters, (1st place runners included!) which can be very easy to do on such a challenging course, and such a big meet!
Either way Sarah killed it! Really unbelieveable- isn't 16:00 even a good time for a 5k run on the track?
I think the video was very well done- it's a windy course and there's no way to get every angle! Announcer was annoying, especially since his voice reminds me of a bad stand up comic!

Anonymous Coward 7 months ago

Who cares how long the course is? It's a prestigious course with a long history and she crushed a course record that previously looked untouchable.

Anonymous Coward 7 months ago

Great run. And I am pleased with the video coverage. But that announcer ought to zip it! He is really annoying. Does he think he is a good sports announcer? I think he just likes to hear himself.

Anonymous Coward 7 months ago

All people do is b!tch about everything. At least someone is trying to show us this footage. I can't remember the last time I watched a video on here and someone didn't complain. Shut up people

Camera angles? Really guys? 7 months ago

We just got 14+ minutes of footage of this historic race, and people are complaining about cinematography? We are sooo lucky to get the coverage we do for a high school sports mainline media puts in the "other" category.
The video can't capture the electric atmosphere and the murmurs that were circulating in the crowd. What a great race. Congrats Sarah!

So 7 months ago

What did she end up running?

Anonymous Coward 7 months ago

Course is 2.9316 according to their website.

Anonymous Coward 7 months ago

She may have some hill strike on the downhills, but that actually helps keep her speed in control on those steep downhills.

Frankk 7 months ago

@Schim: You clearly have no clue about running. First off research shows that no particular strike is better than any other, secondly she is NOT heel striking, she is striking a flat foot. So this is in fact not terrible, its a good stride by an amazing athlete.

Schim 7 months ago

How does someone with such bad heel strike run so fast! I cannot stress enough how terrible that is!

Mike Mather 7 months ago

I would be interested in hearing from Anna Sperry, who was the Simi Valley runner back around 2006-ish. A serious Mt SAC contender in her own right, she was running with Jordan Hasay, Mel Lawrence, the Bishton twins, Kauren Tarver. She ran at BYU for two years then transferred to Arizona State to run for Coach Quintana. What does Anna think of this scarry-fast phenom from her alma-mater?

Anonymous Coward 7 months ago

No doubt about it she ran a great race. Needs to work on her form though...arms could use some help.

try the compatibility View option next to the refresh button. That works for me.

For those who wittness this.....you are the lucky ones! This is great day for HS XC, one of the best runs of all time!

FloTrack: Get some one who knows how to edit videos of different aspect ratios. This was a great race but a terrible video.

Anonymous Coward 7 months ago

Flotrack, the video does not play if the Windows Hosts file on the client blocks the common adware sites. Some of your videos play, some don't. When I go back to an empty Hosts files I can see the video. Your site and most others on the internet have become too ad heavy. You are going to lose me and many others if the current trend continues.
