Sleet08,

If you are here you are more than likely a runner. What drives you to run? It is more than likely something intangible, you like it, love it, running in someone's memory. These are things that non-runners cannot understand. It is a passion that we cannot empirically explain to the non-believers.
You ever tell your non-running friends; I went on a ten mile run this morning. Most of them will look at you silly. I know...stupid non-believers.
When I go to a running event and I discover many athletes warming up with their "Pre" shirts. I understand their passion. It is that same metaphysical spirit that Ryan is trying to share. The understanding of purpose and the belief in something bigger than you.
Yes, God is very real.

Where can I find the final statements or IRS Form 990 supposedly filed by Ryan & Sara Hall on the "Hall Steps Foundation"??

Their website gives information how people may 'donate' and purchase items on the "Online Store" but where are the financial statements and Tax Filings?
I wonder if this is some "Mammoth Thing". Can't find Tax Forms for Meb or Mammoth TC either. Hey, First Class to Africa is OK.

Maybe he should reach out to other omnipotent coaches like Allah or Ganesh. I've heard Zeus is great with marathoners.

Even though god doesn't actually exist, the placebo effect does. If Hall truly thinks an all-powerful being wants him to succeed then it gives him at least somewhat of an advantage.

A. Coward... No one is asking you to Blindly believe (Why should I blindly believe that?). You might want to look into the facts about the reliability of the Bible before you claim it is unreliable. Don't blindly believe anything, including that the Bible is inaccurate. In fact it is the most accurately maintained piece of literature in HIstory, but don't believe me. Look for yourself.

some people are so ignorant. Don't you see it's not all about Hall and his running? He's someone for people to look up to, so he can set an example, and God does care about that. He has 50,000 followers on twitter that he influences in a positive Christian way. God cares about that. He also fuels his STEPS foundation through his running, which helps those starving people and gives them clean water to drink . God cares about that. If you really believe in God you should know that we're on this Earth to serve Him and help others. Otherwise what would be the point? We would all just be in heaven already. So to say God doesn't care about Ryan in his running just because there are big issues in the world and people in need, makes no sense. Ryan helps those people. And just so you know, Christian runners do not ask God to make them faster, they simply serve him the best they can, work hard, and God rewards them, in many different ways. Whether it be staying healthy, or guidence in running a certain race or not.

Lets see, when Christ said that not one sparrow falls to the ground without Gods knowledge, or that every hair on your head is counted, or that God knew you even before you were in your mothers womb, he was talking about an impersonal God? Sounds to me that He cares deeply, about every aspect of our lives. The fact is, God does care about hunger and poverty, and he cares about each and every one of us as well. You know what I hate? It's people who put human limits on our creator. Don't limit God in his ability just because it's something you can't fathom. Oh, and by-the-way, Ryan Hall does have a special connection with God, and so do you, and I, and everyone else on this planet. John 3:16. Proof enough.

Just watched the doentary on Bo Jackson last night. He treated his athleticism as just what it was. He was just doing stuff that made other people scratch their head. To him it was just second nature and no big deal. People even say that God gave him some incredible natural gifts that allowed him to be such a great athlete. So if Ryan Hall believes God has given him a great ability to run fast, then let him have that. Of course we still need to put in the work to get the most out of that ability. Unless you are Bo Jackson. Just watch the doentary "you don't know Bo" and you will see what I mean.

Asdf...,

I totally disagree with your statement.
Let me put on my preacher suit for a moment. God cares about everyone. But do not equate care as prosperity. Some of the most Holy of people had nothing to their name and suffered greatly throughout their life. It is a good thing that Ryan always keeps God within his focus. Another example are Artist, they often have an ambition that exceeds any desire for material rewards.
Come to think of it, Runner's as well. It is not a sport that is going to give you an opulent lifestyle.
To imply that all you need is "Hard Work and Talent" is to say that all those with these ingredients have garnered the success they desire. You and I know this not to be true. Many fall short of their potential. Some due to injuries beyond their control and many other factors.

In Defense of Ryan 5 months ago

I dunno Paul seems pretty certain that different people have different spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12), so it is not unreasonable for a Christian to believe that God has gifted him with running in order to achieve His purposes. And to asdf's claim that God has "more important things", I think that an omnipotent God can handle loving both Ryan and the poor at the same time; they are not mutually exclusive.

Anna 5 months ago

I absolutely agree with "asdf..." that his success has got very little to do with God's "special" love for Ryan Hall... There're gifted people all over the world but not everyone's a runner or some just haven't found theirs yet.
Well, but I wouldn't say I "hate" it... That's too strong a word in this context.

I think 5 months ago

I think it would be good for him to go train with some of the Kenyan runners. He mainly trains by himself, I think training with other people will toughen him up.

Anonymous Coward 5 months ago

man screw this guy. go drop out of a race ryan.

Glenn 5 months ago

I respect what "asdfas..." wrote. As a follower of Christ, I too agree that praying will not necessarily make someone a better athlete - and I also agree that hard work and talent are needed to be fast. However, I would hope that Ryan Hall and any other professing Christian understand that all talent and the ability to succeed are all gifts from God and that we should give Him glory for these blessings. My prayer for Ryan, "asdf...", and myself is that God will use any running ability to help us be God-glorifying people who live (and run) in such a way to point others to a joy and peace that is only from the Lord Jesus. And I pray that Ryan and Sara's organization may continue to raise money to help children in poverty as well.

asdfasdfasdfasdf 5 months ago

Ryan Hall should stop thinking that God cares about his running. There are more important things. I hate it when athletes credit God for their success instead of their own talent and hard work. I personally believe in God. But I would like to think that a loving God would care more about hunger and poverty rather than Ryan Hall and his irrelevant running. I especially hate the notion that Hall has this special connection with God. I could pray all I want but it would not make me a better runner. There is no substitute for hard work and talent.

Canova is different because its science. Ryan seems to be looking for that "magic" workout or something. As long as he does what worked in the past. Work hard, compete. Get results.

asdf;lkj 5 months ago

Did he fire God as his coach?

Anonymous Coward 5 months ago

This seems like a good change for Ryan. I think Canova will get him on the right track.
