If you were planning on traveling to Boston, MA for the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, you might want to come up a week early.

Galen Rupp plans to run a tune-up mile at the 2013 Boston University Terrier Invitational in preparation for the 3000m at NB Indoor Grand Prix.

BU Director of Track and Field Robyne Johnson confirmed earlier this week that Rupp was entered in the meet. Reports have also surfaced that Rupp will once again attempt to run sub-3:50 for the mile and challenge the American record of 3:49.89 set by Bernard Lagat in ’05.

Johnson also added that other faces who were familiar with BU’s indoor track would be on the start list as well.

The obvious addition is BU’s own Rich Peters, who ran 3:57.83 at the 2012 Boston University Valentine Invitational. Peters was the runner-up finisher in the 2012 NCAA Indoor Mile.

Another Massachusetts-college miler who was in the 2012 Valentine Invitational mile may also be present in the upcoming race. Eric Jenkins from Northeastern is rumored to make the trip to Boston University that weekend. Jenkins broke 4-minutes at the Valentine Invitational last year with his 3:59.18 finish.

Oklahoma's Riley Masters will also head back to BU. The former University of Maine miler finished second at the 2011 BU Valentine Invitational in 3:58.17.

There won't just be milers who are accustomed to the facility, but the BU Terrier Invitational itself. Former Providence Friar David McCarthy will make his return to the Terrier nearly one year after running the BU facility record of 3:55.75.

Boston College alumnus, Timothy Ritchie, is unconfirmed for the race as well. The now Boston Athletic Association (BAA) athlete took second to McCarthy last year at this very meet with his 3:58.49 finish.

If you want to see more sub-4 miles than you can count on one hand, you should head over to the Terrier Invitational. If you cross those already outstetched fingers, you might even be lucky enough to see an American record in person.
