After Galen Rupp ran his 3:50 mile at the 2013 BU Terrier Invite, coach Alberto Salazar talks about what has changed in Galen since his silver medal at the Olympic Games. He address haters and naysayers when they go for big goals and how they handle the outside pressures based on advice from Phil Knight.

This isn't trolling. Do you even know what that means, Neal? And for everyone saying, "Flotrack has done so much for the sport, so quit complaining", that's an entirely different subject. We're commenting on the quality of the interview. Stop making excuses for Flotrack. This was a bad interview and that's that. It doesn't imply anything else but that (common) opinion... P.S. Great line of reasoning accusing someone of multiple postings. Flawless logic. |

You could probably listen to many interviews/ interviewers and pass judgement about them not being smooth enough and not asking great questions, etc. Certainly, this interview was no different. However, listen to what Alberto is saying between about 5:02 and the end of the interview - - no truer or more honest words were ever spoken. To me, that part of the interview - in getting Alberto to be honest about what its like questing and striving and working for greatness - was awesome! The Phil Knight quote was so spot on! And the title is very appropriate 'Haters Gonna Hate'. (last year, prior to Galen's Occidental finish or his 5,000 meters Olympic Trials finish - would many people have even given him the benefit of the doubt of ever developing a closing kick that would begin to strike fear in the competition. Galen just ran the 5th fastest indoor mile ever! He came very close to breaking 3:50 . . . that's 3:50! How many people in the history of the world have ever had this kind of world class range (between the mile and half marathon)? Enjoy this golden age and watching one of history's best compete - - for the joy of competing! |

I wish I could look up IP addresses for the "Mark Haters" posting. I am willing to bet that the same person has been posting over and over to make it seem to us that there are a lot of people that agree with his viewpoint. Its actually quite obvious if you pay attention to the grammar/punctuation/sentence structure of the posts. There are obvious similarities. Amazing what lengths people go to in order to troll so hard... |

It's hard not to laugh to myself when I read these comments. Come on people, stop criticizing Mark from behind your computer screen. Flotrack has done more for the sport of running than any other company in the past few years. They started off doing local highschool races and are now interviewing possible the greatest active running coach in the world. Not to mention that the staff is probably not making the best money, but are however simple doing it for the love of the sport. I admit, some of the questions were dumb, but stop hating, get off your lazy bum, and do something productive with your time instead of belittling other people. Be grateful for what Flotrack gives you. |

I'll keep it simple: Mark should PRACTICE interviewing. He's obviously no idiot, so he can learn. If one has the good fortune to interview people at such a high level in the sport, then one should step up and put in the time and effort, do your part to make your role appropriately excellent. Really, people, it's not asking much. |

You Jealy?

These Flotrack message boards are polluted with the most pretentious and menacing comments. ATTENTION ALL HATERS: what are you doing with your lives?? You're obviously not running enough, and your negativity surely isn't help to spawn anything good for the sport. 99% of the people bad mouthing Mark, Salazar, Flotrack, etc., will never be as successul as any of those mentioned....are you fools JUST JEALOUS?? seems like it to me. Haters suck! P.S. Salazar 4EVER! |

I don't see anything wrong with what he said at 2:36. Journalists ask for comments to be clarified and that's what he was doing. Salazar answered it, so .... |

selby may have the most knowledge (for distance) and professionalism IMO. straight to the point and tactful. alex and ryan are just plain fun, which I love, and we all love. your site kicks ass. marc I support your efforts at interviewing.. as a rule of thumb, I would never touch a burning pile of crap topic like "haters" |

Flotrack has done and does more for the sport of track & field than anyone else out there. Mark is a first class guy and has a different (not worse) interview style. I can't stand Salazar- time will tell how much crap he does behind the scenes and will hurt the sport before he's done. You can tell from this interview what a snake he is and I hope good athletes will get out before he brings them down too. |

Albert Salazar is a living legend and one of the most inspiring personalities in track and field history. He and Rupp deserve to be honored and not called out by clowns on the message board. Love that he maintains a relationship with Flotrack, and I'm sure they love being able to connect with Salazar, Rupp, Cain, etc. |

Back off of Mark Floreani people. Most of what you people are bashing him for is the low level of speaking fluidity he possesses. Yea, he's more awkward in his performance compared to a Ryan Fenton or and Alex Lohr. That's not such a big deal. He and his company are still doing GREAT things for this sport. Back off and let him continue to do the best he can. |

Mark, you're such a tool. Nobody wants to watch you act like a child on video and nobody wants to hear you interview like a child. I appreciate a good candid video but this is just straight disrespectful. Let Ryan and Alex run this site and you go back to your frat house and count your money. |

Everyone always thinks they could do a better job. The interview did seem a little akward but I can tell you there is no way I could interview Alberto without being nervous and stumbling over my questions and words. The fact that Alberto even gives the interview tells me he likes flotrack and supports what it's all about no matter who interviews him. Flotrack, keep doing what your doing and know that there are thousands of fans who log in daily to get their fix!! |
