Top NCAA coaches are worried about the upcoming rules change banning speculative track marks

Article 14 of the 2017-18 NCAA track and field rules clearly states that athletes need TFRRS marks to enter a meet after the fourth Saturday in January. If the rule isn't altered--and there's a proposal on the table to do so--then freshmen, professionals, and athletes without a current mark will essentially be locked out of meets or relegated to their slowest heat. This would end speculative exaggerated entry marks--an actual problem--but radically change the face of collegiate track and field.

The coaches were, understandably, hesitant to delve into the issue the day before the NCAA cross country championship. But Providence's Ray Treacy seemed to capture the mood of the room when he said "To fix one problem, they've created numerous problems."
