Caitlin Lane of Penn State University won the 2011 Big Ten Cross Country Championship title while leading her PSU team to a third place finish with 71 points, only 15 points behind the winning Michigan State women. Lane ran 19:58 on the 6k course being the only woman under 20 minutes and winning the race by 14 seconds over Wisconsin's Caitlin Comfort.
