In one of the most exciting women's races we've seen in some time, Sheila Reid outlasted and out kicked a strong field to win her second consecutive NCAA title, the first women to repeat since Sally Kipyego. The Villanova women, who were running for their third consecutive team title, finished third overall in the standings and only 19 points outside the victory.

I was on the Villanova team with Sheila for a few years and Sheila was an awesome teammate. Sheila has a lot of confidence, but she's also a very down-to-earth person and is absolutely hilarious. I had a lot of good laughs with this girl and she deserves every last bit of success she's had.

her right internal jugular vein protrudes when she speaks

where is she arrogant?

Yes 6 months ago

Yes, she can be arrogant if she wants to. Just commenting that this is how it comes across. And it doesn't do anything for the old likeability index.
There are so many incredible athltes who are the entire package-ie likeable and winning disposiotion.
A winning personality will take one farther than one who has a bit of a brag/swag going on. This is a fact..

so annoying

SHEILA REID IS A BOSS!! 2 national xc titles? who even does that? people would never criticize a football player. YOU GO GIRL! SPANK THOSE OTHER GIRLS AT THE OLYMPICS

U mad? 6 months ago

Sheila Reid is honestly one of the most awesome athletes to watch in NCAA track and field right now. Stop hating on the girl.

The 15 members of the Capital One Academic All-America ® Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country University first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.89.

Seven of the first team selections have perfect 4.00 G.P.A.’s.
Jordan Hasay is joined on the Capital One Academic All-America® University Division Women’s Track & Cross Country first team by two repeat selections, seniors Whitney Carlson of North Dakota State and Kimberly Williams of Florida State.
Sheila Reid of Villanova also earned first team honors
ya, they are a couple of idiots with their 4.0+ grade point averages... rofl

One only has to listen to flotrack's post-race interviews with Sheila and Jordan to ascertain that the US education and cross-country system is in disrepair. Congrats to all.

this is her second cross championship in a row....she can say whatever she wants, however she wants.

must be terrible... 6 months ago

"not sure i'd wanna be on her team"

ya i'll bet if you ask her teammates they probably HATE being on a team with someone so encouraging and dedicated. they probably regret going to Villanova where they had to be on a team with someone who helped them win 2 national xc titles and an indoor dmr title. i wouldn't wanna be on a team with someone who has total faith in you either. yuck.
none of you know anything about Sheila Reid and what kind of person she is off the course. this isn't arrogance, just a lot of facts.

I was very impressed with Sheila's outdoor performance. However, she should remember that Jordan ran the mile, DMR and 3000 indoor. She ran the DMR and 3000. Therefore Sheila's legs were fresher. If she is really so dominant, then she should run all 3 races indoor.

Anonymous Coward 6 months ago

yeah she's a bit arrogant but it's refreshing because you actually get a good look into the mindset of an accomplished runner and you can see what makes her so successful! not sure i'd wanna be on her team.... but i enjoy watching her interviews!

Don't hate on sheila for being real, shes just being herself i enjoy watching her interviews instead of hassay's which sound scripted...it's just the difference between an ordinary girl whos worked her ass of to get where she is, in comparison to someone who has been spoiled and given a sense of entitlement since she was a freshman in high school. think about it, you can't even argue against that.

Are you FREE to join me on my annual sunny holiday to Cuba this February? lol

You guys (canada) are a tad touchy arn't ya? We U.S citizens are FREE to critique others, inclluding our own (ever read posts re Jenny Barringer Simpson who also is a tad arrogant). It is really nothing against your counry. We just speak to truth. Thanks for visiting though!

Great race by Sheila. Some of you don't like the Canadian girl beating your American sweetheart again!

It is funny how we sexually stereotype how women athletes are suppose to talk compared to men. There was nothing wrong with anything she said. Get a grip people. No problem for men to talk honestly about how they tried to win, but women aren't suppose to.

Go Sheila! 6 months ago

Congrats Sheila! I love how she has a great runner's intuition of knowing when to chase and when to kick - love it! I was annoyed at how there was a commentator who talked about how she won because she could kick as a miler; she also won a 5000 on the track too, so she can run distance as well!

wellllll 6 months ago

Love her. Didn't she win the Canadian 1500 title this year? Bodes well for 2012, she just has to run one or two big races to hit the standards. Villanova is usually race to win and not the time trial meet type of school

dude man 6 months ago

Sheila certainly seems confident, and some might mistake it for arrogance. But that mindset is a big part of why she has a handful of national titles.

Martin Floreani 6 months ago

congrats....I love the confidence and cant wait to see her compete for a 2012 spot/medal/Gold!

Great Job Sheila... 6 months ago

Don't even listen to those neg. comments. You're going places and there will always be those who can't come to terms with a confident woman. You gave an honest account of what went down and you should be able to articulate it from your perspective. People are always going to be critical of the champion when they are cheering for the other gal.

Anonymous Coward 6 months ago

can't. stand. her! just one of those chics that annoys me!

Actually, Villanova does arguably have some of the fastest school records in the distance events, outside of Colorado. Jenny B broke the NCAA records in the indoor 5000m, 3000m, and mile, all of which I believe were previously held by Villanova women. Then outdoors, I think she broke Sonia's 1500m record. That outdoor 3000m record still stands with Vicki's name next to it, and although we rarely see that event run outdoors anymore, I think it is a pretty quick time.

Some of Villanova's Outdoor Records:
800 Meters 2:00.47 Debbie Grant July 25, 1987
1500 Meters 4:05.81 Sonia O’Sullivan Aug. 3, 1991
Mile 4:28.77 Vicki Huber Aug. 8, 1988
3000 Meters 8:37.25 Vicki Huber Sept. 25, 1988
5000 Meters 15:26.90 Sonia O’Sullivan Jul. 8, 1990
Some of Villanova's Indoor Records:
800 Meters 2:04.69 Celeste Halliday Mar. 6, 1988
1000 Meters 2:42.13 Gina Procaccio Mar. 13, 1987
Mile 4:28.31 Vicki Huber Feb. 5, 1988
3000 Meters 8:54.48 Vicki Huber Jan. 28, 1989
5000 Meters 15:17.28 Sonia O’Sullivan Jan. 25, 1991
So I might also be biased, but I do believe Villanova's school records are pretty impressive. And the fact that Sheila knows and respects this is quite humble within itself.
SO proud of Sheila and all the Villanova girls and guys. Congrats to Georgetown and all the teams and individuals who smashed it today. Those are some tough competitors out there!
GO NOVA!

UHHHH 6 months ago

I don't think she comes off too conceited. Confident? Sure. But that confidence is what makes her so good. And she is very, very good. Look for her to do huge things on the track this spring.

Such a close race at the end...thought Jordan might have her this time, but Reid is incredible. Great race for both of them!

i am glad Sheila won and not Hasay. Sheila took the initiative to push the pace and lead the chasepack to catch the SMU girl while Hasay basically sat behind Sheila and tried to outkick her in the last 200m. Sheila took the gamble and am glad it paid off. Love her confidence too, now where did she say anything bordering on y

She was talking about Deborah Maier.
