"Going into the cross country season of 2011 many obstacles were thrown at us. Our head coach had to move, and we were switched into a new district and region. One thing that didn't change, however, was our family bond. We all knew that what ever came our way we would fight through it together.
Our new coach, Stewart Edwards, soon found his place with the team and we were all willing to follow his guidance. Within a week or two of school starting we had built a solid team of about 48 runners, the largest we have had in a very long time. Plenty of new additions to the team quickly gave both the boys and girls team a great deal of confidence. The girls placed 2nd at the 5 Star Conference meet, their best finish in the conference ever. In addition, both teams advanced onto Regionals from Districts. This hasn't happened for the girls since 2007!
The team has grown significantly in the last year and the cross country program at New Smyrna Beach high school will continue to grow. There are great things to expect from this team!"
