U.S. marathoner Kara Goucher may be leaving Nike, according to Sara Germano of the Wall Street Journal. The 35-year-old is reportedly negotiating with other shoe companies at the moment, yet Nike could still resign her with the company's right of first refusal. A deal is expected to be finalized by the end of February. Goucher recently announced she will be moving to Colorado to be coached by her former collegiate coach Mark Wetmore. Wetmore coaches 2013 World Championship silver medalist Jenny Simpson and NCAA steeplechase champion Emma Coburn, who happen to be New Balance athletes. Goucher once trained under Alberto Salazar and managed to lower her personal bests in the 5K to 14:55.02 and 10K to 30:55.16 as well as make her first Olympic team in 2008. In 2011, she switched coaches and joined Jerry Schumacher's crew to train with longtime competitor Shalane Flanagan. In an off-year without any major World Championship or Summer Olympics, Goucher blogged that she hopes to improve on the track. She withdrew from the 2013 ING New York City Marathon due to a foot injury, but is back to training in Boulder.
