Matt Centrowitz and Hassan Mead threw down in a wire-to-wire battle Friday night at the House of Track to blaze through in 7:40.74 and 7:40.95, respectively. The marks are currently the fifth and sixth-fastest times in the world this year.

Centrowitz’s performance is his third straight victory in three weeks as the Nike Oregon Project athlete won the mile at the Camel City Invitational in 3:54 and the 3K at the first TrackTown USA High Performance Meet. 

The World silver medalists’ mile victory at JDL Fast Track was won in an exciting finish where Centrowitz did the “dab” in an ode to NFL quarterback Cam Newton.

Centrowitz didn’t do the “dab” Friday night in Portland, but he did come away with a six-second personal best in the 3K distance.

Mead, who finished just 0.21 seconds behind Centrowitz, also came away with a personal best by four seconds. The race Friday night was Mead’s first performance of 2016. 

Fellow Oregon Track Club athlete Tom Farrell followed in 7:42, and former Oregon All American Trevor Dunbar finished fourth in 7:43.

Jenkins Gets Redemption Over Chelimo

After losing to Paul Chelimo in the last TrackTown USA High Performance meet, Eric Jenkins returned to out-kick the U.S. Army athlete for a finishing time of 3:42.32 in the 1500m. Chelimo followed just behind him in 3:42.49, and Ben Blankenship finished third in 3:42.95.

In his professional debut, the Nike Oregon Project athlete got edged out by Chelimo in the 3K at the first House of Track competition. Chelimo burned Jenkins in the final lap of the race to take the victory in 7:44.68 while Jenkins followed in 7:45.14. That was not the case Friday night in Portland as Jenkins rolled a 26.5 final 200m lap to claim the victory. 

Allyson Felix Takes Down English Gardner and Jenna Prandini

In her 2016 debut, Allyson Felix rolled through the 60m final in a winning time of 7.24 to beat English Gardner and Jenna Prandini. The four-time Olympic gold medalist is returning from winning the 400m at the World Championships in Beijing last August.

Andrew Wheating, Treniere Moser Roll Through 800m Wins

The men's 800m got things rolling with Andrew Wheating taking the victory over Oregon Track Club teammate Harun Abda with a final push in the last 100m. Wheating blazed through the finish line in 1:48 to mark his second victory at the House of Track. His first win came in the 1500m two weeks ago when he ran an indoor personal best of 3:39. 

Nike Oregon Project's Treniere Moser also engaged a killer kick to win the women's 800m in 2:02 over Liga Velvere. The winning time is less than a second slower than her current indoor 800m personal best, and marks her first victory of 2016 after finishing runner-up in both the 800m and mile at the last House of Track meet.
