17-18 Boys 100m

Who: Jeffery Hulon Jr., Jaren Colbert, Kaleb Campbell, Seth Page, John Isom
When: Semi-Final Friday 9:15AM, Final Saturday 9:00AM
Why: Colbert's 10.42 is the fastest all-conditions time in the field. The Manvel junior ranks 18th in thestate, and was on Manvel's U.S. No. 8 4x100m team. But he will be challenged by Hulon Jr., the sophomore from Beaumont Westbrook. He just missed a bid to the state meet this spring by placing third to Brandon Taylor and eventual third-place medalist Caleb Jolivette. Page, a senior, has only been running track for one year, but he was fast enough to earn a spot on the Texas A&M team next year. He will look for big results in what could be one of his last races as a high school competitor. Isom is more of a 400m runner, but this weekend, he's only entered in the 100m. The recent Fort Bend Marshall grad has only run the 100m once this year, and posted a time of 11.39 against a major headwind of -3.9.    


17-18 Boys 200m

Who: Shamon Ehiemua, Jeffery Hulon, Kaleb Campbell, Daniel Ford, Joe Williams
When: Semi- Final Friday 2:30PM, Final Saturday 1:00PM
Why: Ehiemua is one of the fastest runners in the country, and ran the fastest 200m time in the state this year with his wind-legal 20.56 (+0.3) from the Great Southwest Classic. That time ranks him U.S. No. 3 behind seniors Michael Norman and Virginia's Noah Lyles. There's going to be a strong contention of runners in the chase as well with Hulon Jr. and his wind-legal 21.29 (-0.8), as well as Ford's all-conditions 21.43. Campbell and Williams are also looking to bring the heat. Williams was the class 2A state champion, and has improved in every race he's run this year after the UIL region meet. His most recent wind-legal time of 21.37 (0.8) ranks him among the top 30 in the state.


17-18 Girls 400m

Who: Morgan Stewart, Lynette Amaram, Jean Jenkins, Shania Ford
When: Final 10:30 AM Friday
Why: Watch out for the battle between Stewart and Amaram-both ladies are state-caliber athletes. Amaram was the 4A state champion in the 800m, while Stewart was 6A's third-place finisher. Stewart has a slight advantage-she ran the third-fastest time in the state with her 2:09.60 from the Victor Lopez Classic. Amaram sits behind her at Texas No. 6 2:11.28. The two battled it out a few times this season, but Stewart has come out on top by a small margin each time.


17-18 Girls 100mH

Who: Milan Young, Kennedy Bailey, Paige Kimble, G'Auna Edwards
When: Semi-Final Friday 12:30PM, Final Saturday 12:15PM
Why: This is one of the best races at any region this weekend, and you won't want to miss it. All the girls listed above are ranked 17th or higher in the state. Young is coming off a big run at New Balance Nationals, where she finished ninth in a new PR and Texas No. 4 time of 13.75 (-0.6). We also can't forget about her third-place finish in class 6A only a few months ago. She will be opposed by Bailey and Edwards, who rank just behind her at all-conditions Texas No. 7 and 11, respectively.   


15-16 Boys 110H

Who: Eric Edwards, Dominick Houston-Shepard
When: Semi-Final Friday 1:15PM, Finals Saturday 12:30AM
Why: The two fastest underclassmen in the state are entered in this event. Edwards ran the fastest sophomore all-conditions time in the the state this season with his 14.08. He ran that time at the District 17 - 6A meet, where he placed fourth. He was in position to move on to the area meet until flooding cancelled it. Houston-Shepard crushed the competition at districts this year with the fastest freshman time in the state: 14.87. These two studs are also set to battle in the 400mH.
