Tori Bowie, Olympic And World Champion, Dies At Age 32

Tori Bowie, the 2017 world champion in the 100m and three-time Olympic medalist, died at the age of 32.

Tori Bowie, the 2017 world champion in the 100m and three-time Olympic medalist, died at the age of 32. 

“We’re devasted [sic] to share the very sad news that Tori Bowie has passed away. We’ve lost a client, dear friend, daughter and sister,” her agency said.

“Tori was a champion…a beacon of light that shined so bright! We’re truly heartbroken and our prayers are with the family, friends and everyone that loved her.”

Tori Bowie Leaves A Lasting Legacy

At the 2016 Olympics, Bowie was part of the United State’s gold medal 4x100m team. She also won silver in the 100m and bronze in the 200m. 

The next season, Bowie won the world title in the 100m in 10.85 seconds and anchored the American team to gold in the 4x100m. Bowie is the last American woman to medal at an Olympics or World Championships in the 100m.

Bowie competed collegiately for Southern Mississippi where she won two NCAA long jump titles. She continued to jump as a professional athlete before moving to the sprints in 2014. Her breakout race came in 2014 when she won the 200m at the Prefontaine Classic from lane one. 

In 2019, she came back to the long jump and finished fourth at the 2019 World Athletics Championships. After 2019 she competed sparingly with her last competition coming in 2022.
