Grant Fisher Scratches From 5000m With Injury
Grant Fisher will not contest the 5000m at the 2023 USATF Championships after suffering an injury in his femur.
Grant Fisher has pulled out of the 5000m final at the USATF Championships, citing a stress injury in his femur.
Fisher placed fourth in the 10,000m on Thursday.
“Incredibly frustrating timing but it’s all part of the game,” Fisher posted on Instagram.
Fisher placed fourth in the 10,000m and sixth in the 5000m at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. He also holds the American record in the 3000m, 5000m and 10,000m

On Thursday, he looked well positioned to make another U.S., but faded in the final lap and slipped back to fourth.
There is still an opportunity for Fisher to compete at the 2023 World Athletics Championships 10,000m if third-place finisher Sean McGorty does not meet the qualifying standard for the meet.
Entering the USATF Championships, only three men in the 10,000m field had met the time standard for Budapest—Fisher, Woody Kincaid and Joe Klecker. Kincaid and Klecker finished first and second on Thursday in the 10,000m.
