Tobi Amusan, the 2022 world champion in the high hurdles and world record holder in the event from Nigeria, is facing a suspension for three whereabouts violations.  The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) confirmed the news on Wednesday and said that Amusan’s case will be heard prior to this year’s World Championships.

Before the AIU announcement, Amusan posted on her Instagram account that she was charged by the AIU for missing three anti-doping tests in a 12-month period.

“I intend to fight this charge and will have my case decided by a tribunal of 3 arbitrators before the start of next month’s World Championships. I am a CLEAN ATHLETE, and I am regularly’ (maybe more than the usual) tested by the AIU - I was tested within days of my third ‘missed test.’ I have FAITH that this will be resolved in my favor and that I will be competing at the World Championships in August.”

Amusan competed at Tuesday’s Continental Tour meet in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, winning the 100m hurdles in 12.35 seconds.

Last season, Amusan turned in one of the most memorable performances of the 2022 World Athletics Championships. She broke the world record in the semifinals of the high hurdles, with a time of 12.12. Amusan came back to run a wind-aided 12.06 to win the gold medal in the final.
