Silan Ayyildiz Breaks Katelyn Tuohy's NCAA Mile Record At BU Valentine
Katelyn Tuohy's NCAA mile record is no more. Oregon Track and Field star Silan Ayyildiz ran an incredible 4:23.46 mile to break the previous mark.
Katelyn Tuohy's reign atop the NCAA indoor mile all-time list has come to an end.
At the BU Valentine Invitational, Oregon's Silan Ayyildiz snagged the collegiate record in a thrilling race that saw six women break 4:25 and 10 break 4:30.
Ayyildiz set the new all-time indoor mile mark with her stellar 4:23.46 and finished fifth overall in the loaded race.
Tuohy's previous collegiate record was 4:24.26, which she posted at the Dr. Sander Invitational in 2023.

It was the perfect storm for Ayyildiz. Solid pacing and a loaded field led to one of the fastest women's mile races in the world this year.
Oregon's Samantha McDonnell brought the leaders through the first 809m in 2:12. That set a foundation for Lucia Stafford out front and she was able to deliver. Stafford ran 2:09 over the last 800m.
Stafford would cross the line with the win in 4:21.74.
Three women finished before Ayyildiz crossed the line. Danielle Jones (New Balance) ran 4:22.45 for second, Gabija Galvydyte (Nike) clocked 4:22.76 in third and Taryn Rawlings (adidas) managed a 4:22.80 effort for fourth. The Oregon Duck was next behind them.
Two heats later, NC State's Grace Hartman almost redeemed her former Wolfpack teammate Tuohy.
Hartman, all by her lonesome, unleashed an unreal 4:24.76 heat win, which put her sixth overall in the mile at BU. That mark is the third-fastest in NCAA history behind Ayyildiz and Tuohy.
