Get ready for a hurdles showdown in Eugene this summer.

Event organizers for the 2025 Prefontaine Classic announced on Thursday morning that Paris Olympic men's 400m hurdles gold medalist Rai Benjamin will compete at the meet slated for July 5.

He last raced the meeting two years ago in 2023 when it served as the Diamond League Final, winning the 400m hurdles in a 46.39 in a meet record time ahead of Karsten Warholm.

Benjamin has competed in five Pre Classic throughout the course of his career, dating all the way back to his high school days when he raced the boys 200m in 2015. 

But Benjamin certainly enters the 2025 track season with momentum, having capped off his 2024 outdoor campaign with his first Olympic gold medal in the 400m hurdles at the Paris Olympics, clocking 46.46 en route to that win. He also won gold for Team USA in the men's 4x400m relay.

This year's Prefontaine Classic will mark the 50th edition of the meet and is the ninth meeting on the Diamond League calendar this season.

What Is The Diamond League Schedule For 2025?

The 2025 season will be the 16th edition of the Diamond League, and each meet typically features six or seven events for each gender, with each discipline being contested between four and seven times during the season to allow athletes enough chances to accumulate points.
