While it’s the 100-meter dash that usually is the gauge for determining the “fastest man/woman alive,” that doesn’t mean the 200-meter event is any less important or exciting.

In fact, there won’t even be a 100-meter race at the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships, where the 60m and 200m will be two of the premier races.

The event is scheduled for March 14-15 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and as the name suggests, it will include the best of the best from the 2024-2025 indoor collegiate track season.

Scroll down for all the details about who will be competing in 2025, when the preliminaries and finals will take place and who won in 2024.

As of March 6, nine defending champions are expected to be back at the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships to put their titles on the line. One is South Carolina's JaMeesia Ford in the 200-meter dash.

Did You Know: There were 11 records set at the 2023 Division I Track and Field Championships and another three in 2024. How many will be broken in 2025?

In a recent analysis of the record book, Stan Becton of NCAA.com listed all the records he thinks could be in jeopardy in 2025, including the men’s 200.

The record belongs to Elijah Hall-Thompson, who competed for Houston and posted a time of 20.02 in 2018.

It took a time of 20.23 (Terrence Jones of Texas Tech) to win the 200 last year, while this year’s front-runner, Makanakaishe Charamba of Auburn, tops the list of this year’s qualifiers with a season-best performance of 20.13.

How Will The 200-Meter Races Be Contested At The 2025 NCAA Division I Indoor Track And Field Championships?

Each of the 200-meter events at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place over two rounds.

The first will be the preliminaries/semifinals, with each consisting of four four-runner heats using lanes 3-6. Entrants are seeded based on the performances that qualified them for the national meet.

The eight best times overall, after ties are broken, will advance to the final.

The final will consist of two four-runner heats, with the best time overall taking the title.

When Will The 200-Meter Races Take Place At The 2025 NCAA Division I Indoor Track And Field Championships?
