As the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships kick off in Eugene, Oregon, some surprising results have already emerged on the track.

In a shocking turn of events, Liam Murphy of Villanova, the current all-time record holder for the men's 1500m, failed to qualify for the final round.

He finished sixth in his designated heat with a time of 3:52.44 during the semifinals. Despite the setback, Murphy still holds the top collegiate time of 3:33.02 for the men's 1500m.

Jack Crull of Bradley University secured the top spot in heat 1 of the men's 1500m semifinal, clocking in at 3:51.96, and has earned his place in the finals scheduled for Friday.
