As it so often does, it came down to the final event at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The 4x400m.

With several teams still in the mix, a final 1600m of action would provide some of the most entertaining action of the evening -- and the result was the perfect solution for that equation.

Texas A&M and USC will share the 2025 NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship title after tying with 41 points a-piece.

Arkansas finished third with 40 points.

So How Did We Get Here?

Entering the final race of the evening, USC (40 points), led over Texas A&M (33 points) and Arkansas (34 points). 

Auburn was also in the points conversation with 35 points, but without a team in the 4x400m final they were mathematically eliminated from title contention.

The 4x400m came down to a final duel between Texas A&M's Auhmad Robinson and South Florida's Gabriel Moronta (who was earlier DQ'ed from the 400m.)

Off of the final curve, Robinson moved to Moronta's outside and for a moment he surged ahead. But at the last second, Moronta found a gear. He moved back past Robinson and stunned the A&M crowd at the line. Those two teams ran 3:00.42 and 3:00.73.

But now with the team scores on the line, and eight points on the board for A&M, the crowd turned their attention to the rest of the field - and there was USC. USC was battling with Penn State for the final podium spot - with that point they'd tie A&M.

They got it, crossing the line in 3:03.18 to Penn State's 3:03.85.

A late protest re-ignited the drama. A protest was filed against South Florida for incidental contact off of one of the curves. With a South Florida DQ, A&M would earn the sole title and Arkansas, which had finished third, would move into a tie for second with USC.

But eventually the officials ruled that the results would stand.

• 7th - 400m - Auhmad Robinson (2 Pts)

• 2nd - 400m - William Jones (8 pts)
• 2nd - 4x100m Relay Team (8 Pts)
• 3rd - 200m - Garrett Kaalund (6 Pts)
• 4th - Discus - Racquil Broderick (5 Pts)
• 6th - 200m - Max Thomas (3 Pts)

The NCAA D1 Track and Field Championships will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN2 from June 11 to 14.
